Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a treatment that is being used in France since 1952 with great success in the most diverse fields of application. Developed by the French physician Dr. Michel Pistor, the method is established at present in France and all countries of the Romance language area. The number of the physicians that use this method for the benefit of their patients is steadily increasing. The fact that this medicine – with all its high standards of quality – is already established, demonstrates that we are not dealing with a random method whose effectiveness is not proven.

The procedure in general consists of infiltrating "allopathic" medical substances (injections), namely those that a “traditional“ physician would administer orally. But there is a significant difference: when orally taken, a particular medicine is „digested“ and therefore only reaches, if it does, a very low concentration, which is the object of the complaints. However, by means of simply directly injecting the medicine on the spot where the pain or disturbance occurs, the targeted area can be directly treated without deviations. The quantity of medicine to administer is extremely low whereas the performance time is short and the effects long lasting.

In the last years, mesotherapy has also found its way to aesthetic medicine and is enriching it in multiple directions. Hereby different active substances are injected into the skin with different injection techniques and at different skin layers.

What is mesotherapy indicated for?

Mesotherapy can be applied for aesthetic medicine in the following areas:

1. Prevention of aging processes of the skin

• Smoothing of wrinkles

• Refreshment of the taint

• Tightening of the skin (Mesolift or Bio-Facelifting)

2. Cellulite

How do we have to imagine the infiltration of the medicaments into the skin?

It is about superficial microinjections carried out manually with a syringe or with a special pistol on wider surfaces, or proceeding point by point. The needle is not more than 4 mm long and specially scraped in order to prevent unnecessary bleedings. These injections provoke a chain reaction of neural therapy, acupuncture and pharmacology effects. For therapeutic purposes, different highly diluted drugs are inserted into the skin by means of special injection techniques. Stimulating the reflex points, in combination with the therapeutic effects, some stimulating and regenerative effects are activated on the skin.

The pistol has the advantage that different infiltration techniques can be preprogrammed and with a stamp the skin can be tensed. The tensing of the skin however, can also be done by the hand of an experienced therapist.

How does mesotherapy work?

1. To prevent aging processes of the skin:

To prevent the aging process, mainly two substance groups are used.

Hyaluronic acid is applied on the upper dermic skin layers where it is naturally present. Within the aging process, a reduction of the hyaluronic acid is observed, which leads to a reduced capacity to bind water, thus leading to the formation of fine wrinkles. The application of hyaluronic acid injections causes the smoothing of little wrinkles and the skin recovers a fresher appearance.

This treatment is usually combined with vitamins to block the production of free radicals. This combination is a causal attempt to influence the aging process. The alternative of using vitamin rich creams or taking in vitamins does not usually reach the targeted areas or at least not in the desired concentrations.

Mesotherapy is a form of therapy whose stimulating and reconstructive effects take place in cyclical treatments. As a complement to the effects of mesotherapy, special caring products or treatments of your cosmetician might reinforce its effects.

2. Against Cellulite:

The origins of cellulite are found in different factors. So we can affirm that it is influenced by female hormones and that it is also, to a certain extent, genetically conditioned. At any rate it leads to a reduced arterial and venous circulation combined with a diminished lymphatic drainage.

Cellulite is due to increased storage of fat in the fat cells. Unlike male tissue, female fat cells are loosely wrapped with connective tissue. Due to the strong fat load, the fat cells swell up and lead to a compression of the blood and lymphatic vessels. The result is an oedema and a degeneration of the connective tissue fibers, originating the typical „orange peel“ appearance. The cellulite treatment is complex.

Most important:

• 1. An antioedema treaeatment to restore an efficient microcirculation.

• 2. A lipolysis by blocking phosphodiesterase; for example with theophylline, which causes a
lipolysis in the fat cells, with the subsequent expulsion of short chained fatty acids.

• 3. Improvement and renewal of the connective tissue; the treatment achieves an improvement
of the three dimensional structure of the connective tissue cover of the fatty tissue and
consequently a tightening of the skin structure with a smoothing of the „orange peel “
appearance.

Does mesotherapy also help against stretch marks?

In fact, mesotherapy is especially indicated for stretch marks! A special drug mixture injected into the shortly occurred alterations of the skin guarantees a practically complete healing, immediately after pregnancy.

Is the treatment painful?

A quick injection is almost painless. Why? Because a quick injection does not leave any time for the pain to reach the brain, so as to be able to feel it. This is why mesotherapy with high speed devices is better to bear.

How many injections are necessary per treatment?

Depending on the diagnosis, approximately 10 to 200 injections (with the automatic device).

Are so many injections not dangerous?

No. There is no danger with an experienced physician and with sterile one-use syringes and cannulas!

What are the risks that could be brought on during a treatment?

Like other procedures using injections into or underneath the skin, mesotherapy involves the apparition of local symptoms (reddening, itching) and small bruises. These recede after a short time. Allergic reactions are prevented as much as possible through thorough preliminary analysis and examining. Working clean with sterile instruments minimizes the risk of infections.

What do I have to bear in mind as a patient?

Two days before and after the therapy: Do not take any aspirin or anticoagulant drugs, and do not use any creams, body lotions or powder on the areas to be treated.

Two days before the therapy: Do not expose your skin to sunlight, do not use colored, new or very tight clothes on the targeted areas and do not apply any creams or powder on them – except when the physician specifically orders it. Do not expose the targeted areas to x-rays.

How long does the treatment take?

Each treatment lasts between 20 and 60 minutes depending on the targeted areas and is carried out ambulant. The treatment sessions have to be repeated six times in one week intervals. Afterwards a refreshment session is applied after 14 days or one month.
