Obagi Blue Peel

The human skin is exposed every day to environmental conditions, hormonal variations and many burdens such as sun radiation, stress and cigarette smoke. Combined with the normal aging-process, they contribute to the formation of unaesthetic defects such as pigmentation dysfunctions, loose tissue, wrinkles and acne scars. There is however an efficient method to slow down the aging process and diminish its negative effects: the Obagi Blue Peel. This
innovative procedure can help you to obtain a healthier, smoother and younger looking skin.

We have put together the most important information on the Obagi Blue Peel for you. After a thorough examination of your skin, your practitioners will tell you if this peeling is right for you.

What is a Blue Peel?

A Blue Peel is a treatment that will significantly improve both the appearance and health condition of your skin.
First your physician applies a mixture of a low concentrated trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and a blue substratum on the skin. This mixture reduces the penetration speed of TCA and makes it possible for your physician to precisely control the depth of the peeling and therefore the elimination of a fine, superficial layer of aged and damaged skin. The dead skin cells are rejected after some days and replaced by new, healthy ones, the result being a cleaner, younger and tighter skin.
Apart from the face, the Blue Peel can also be applied to other body parts such as hands, arms, neck, breasts and back.
This effective peeling is exclusively carried out by specialized and experienced physicians.

What is so particular about Blue Peel?

The Obagi Blue Peel shows a decisive advantage: the safe control of the penetration depth.
The combination of TCA and the blue substratum makes it possible for your practitioner to
exactly control the penetration depth and the quantity required, adapting it to the individual needs of your skin.
The Blue Peel can also be applied to hands, neck, breast and back without any problems.

How does the treatment work?

Blue Peel is a quick, relatively uncomplicated and good tolerable procedure for which mostly no sedation is required.
Depending on the condition of your skin and the results you want to obtain, the practitioner will apply the blue peel solution on the targeted skin area. This procedure lasts approximately 20 minutes. When the solution is applied, you will perceive a light burning feeling that will last between 2 and- 3minutes. To reduce this feeling, the skin can be cooled down with a ventilator. Should you still have an unpleasant feeling, your physician can administer you a sedative.
After reaching the desired penetration depth, the skin is cleared with a special cleaning lotion. Directly after the treatment a blue tone is left on your skin. It disappears completely in approximately 12 to 24 hours.
Consult your physician for more details and possible complications. For example, for patients susceptible of suffering from Herpes Simplex, a prophylactic treatment is applied.

What happens after the treatment?

In general, after the treatment, a light, temporary swelling of the affected area occurs and, after two or three days, the surface of your skin starts to peel off. In order not to disturb the healing process, you should absolutely not pull from the peeling off skin or the scabs.
The peeling off process lasts at least some days and normally finishes after three to six days.
Your normal daily activities will not be impaired during the healing process. You should however avoid certain things such as sauna baths, sun baths, strong gestures, irritating your skin with strong water jets and strong rubbing with a towel, as well as sports activities.
After a face treatment, you should sleep on your back.
Please discuss with your physician the time between treatment sessions.

How does the skin look like after the peeling process?

Immediately after the peeling process, you can see an improvement of your skin’s condition.
Over the next four to six weeks, the condition of your skin will continuously improve. The skin will look tighter, more homogeneous, healthier and younger.

Can Blue Peel be combined with other treatments?

Yes. A combination with other aesthetic treatments is possible and allows for an additional optimization of the results.
Consult your physician on which combinations could be suitable for you.

Can Blue Peel be repeated?

Yes. Your practitioner will inform you on the number of peelings necessary in your case. It will depend on the condition of your skin and the results wished.

In general most of the skin problems can be significantly improved with one up to three Blue Peels.
The treatments can be carried out with a time lapse between sessions of ten up to twelve weeks.

Can make-up be applied after the Blue Peel?

By respecting it, you contribute to an undisturbed healing process.
