What is PhotoDerm®VL?

How does the PhotoDerm®VL work?

What are birthmarks?

Birthmarks are alterations of the skin such as naevus flammeus or hemangiomas that are caused by the gathering of multiple blood vessels in the skin. They are already formed at birth and in some cases they get bigger with age.

Does this treatment hurt?

As we are dealing only with a pulsed light, most of the patients only feel a sort of snapping when the pulsed light enters the skin. Painkillers or local anaesthesia are not needed in general.

Are there any side-effects?

As with any other medical therapy, side-effects are possible. Sometimes light reddening of the skin or swellings of the treated area may occur, but these also disappear within a few days. In very rare cases, sunburn-like overreactions may appear, but these also heal and only concern dark skin types. Something similar applies to pigment shifting.

How many sessions are necessary?

In general, 2-7 sessions are necessary. The sessions, depending on the targeted area, last 5-20 minutes.

Does the health insurance company pay form y treatment?

The treatment with PhotoDerm® HR has to be paid privately, as it is a pure cosmetic correction.

Am I limited in my activities after the treatment session?

Depending on the surface treated, you can resume your activities immediately, or the day after you are treated. At any rate, you should avoid intensive sunbathing before, during and at least some weeks after the last treatment session. Please consult your physician.
